News has reached Formgrids that BLESS MY STARS may be racing her last race in South Africa on Saturday, 17 February 2024 at Turffontein in the Betway London News Stakes where she is the favourite to win.
The 2023 Equus Champion three-year-old filly will soon be shipped to the United States to continue her racing career on North American soil.
On Saturday she will be ridden by Athandiwe Mgudlwa. BLESS MY STARS will carry the Team Valor colours in her local swansong. She has a clear edge over most of her rivals on collateral form, is weighted to win, and starts from a near-perfect draw of 5.
Another horse in the Sean Tarry stable is LITIGATION who will challenge BLESS MY STARS with Gavin Lerena taking the reins.
Mike de Kock’s SAFE PASSAGE is also a strong challenger with Diego De Gouveia in the saddle.
Another strong contender is EMIRATE GINA. She was trained by Roy Magner and taking the reins is Denis Schwarz.
Team Valor International’s Barry Irwin bought the now four-year-old last month.
“BLESS MY STARS, being a Champion and a Grade 1 winner, offers excellent downside as a broodmare prospect, which figured significantly in our decision to buy her,” says Irwin.
Irwin continues: “We hope she can make her mark in middle-distance racing in North America. She trained on at 4 and we have high hopes for her.”
