Piere 'Striker' Strydom's 
camp have issued a statement on his well being after his fall on favourite, MARY READ in race 5 (the Vaal, 31 December 2024). The fall happened at the start of the race when they left the pens.
"We would like to thank everyone for the overwhelming messages of support.
"He is conscious and talking.
"He has pain in the neck and arm and awaiting to undergo CT scans.
"Wishing you a speedy recovery our Champion."
Calvin Habib update: He has a fractured collarbone and will undergo surgery on Thursday morning.
